Following the widespread release of a film purportedly featuring Bollywood actor Aamir Khan endorsing a political party, Indian police filed a first information complaint against an unidentified person, according to ARY News.
Following the discovery that deepfake technology was used to create the popular video, local police reportedly took action, according to an Indian media outlet.
Aamir Khan was seen praising the manifesto of a particular Indian political party in the deepfake video, which surfaced before of the general election scheduled for April 19.
The Bollywood actress was seen cautioning Indians against the politicians’ “jumle vaade” in another video.
The actor clarified the situation shortly after the deepfake video became viral, claiming that he has taken action against it.
The recent viral video that purports to show Aamir Khan endorsing a specific political party has us concerned.
He wants it made clear that this is a phoney video that contains no truth at all.
According to an Aamir Khan representative, “He has reported the matter to various authorities related to this issue, including filing a FIR with the Cyber Crime Cell of the Mumbai Police.”
The spokesperson did, however, urge Indian citizens to vote in the forthcoming elections by going to the polls and citing Khan.
